Expos second baseman Jose Vidro announced on Wednesday that he would miss the rest of the 2004 season starting Sept. 1 and have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee eight days later. Jason Giambi was again setback from his rehab assignments with an upper respiratory infection. Giambi, who hasn't played since July 23 because of a benign tumor, started working out at the Yankees' training complex two weeks ago, but he hasn't taken batting practice yet. Bud Selig announced yesterday that sending MLB players to the Summer Olympic games was not going to happen. He said that it would cut into baseball's schedule, so it simply was not going to work.
